‘Terms of Service’ refers to the seemingly endless pages of small print that we blindly agree to without reading. When we click “yes” we sign away our data and privacy to Big Tech.
In a gallery, you can barely make out the words. Many walk past without noticing the hidden messages. Only by pausing, letting the light catch the edges of the letters, can you move around the piece and slowly make out the words. It is impossible to capture the work as it is seen by the human eye. Digital cameras and editing allow us to “see” the work easily, removing the need to fully engage.
I made this series in 2018, for my solo ‘Analogue Interference’. I am finding myself turning to this work again as it has gained new relevance for me and my work in the age of AI.
