Swarm at COP28

As part of the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair award, Swarm was recreated as a 10 metre-long, 2.5 metre high installation in Westgate Oxford. In a nearby event space, over 3,000 visitors made climate pledges inside their own fortune-teller bees, which were added to a public particpatory wall-hung sculpture. Following this, Leonie was invited to meet HM Queen Camilla, for which she made a special “queen bee” that was later auctioned for charity.
Later that year, Leonie was invited by Bee the Change and Pangaia to take Swarm to COP28. Working with VCA Projects, Leonie realised a new iteration of Swarm with COP delegates and members of the public. Together with helpers from the World Wildlife Fund, visitors were invited to make a climate pledge, fold a bee and add it to the ever-growing sculpture. This special Swarm created with over 2,000 visitors has a permanent home in Terra - the Sustainability Pavilion at ExpoCity in Dubai.
